The Roaring 20s - A 2020 Look Ahead
Welcome to the Roaring 20s
Okay, so maybe this isn’t quite the roaring 20s, but wouldn’t it be great to live in the worlds of The Great Gatsby or Midnight in Paris?
As we finish off the first month of the new decade, we would like to briefly jump back to 2019 to let everyone know what we have been up to since completing our short film “Disconnect” in July 2019; and what we have in store for 2020!

A 2019 Look Back
Cast/Crew Screening of Disconnect
Since the completion of Disconnect, we threw a cast/crew screening party that felt larger than life. It was grand time to reconnect with the team that brought this story to life and reminisce on the experiences on set. Disconnect jumped quickly onto the festival circuit after this, being selected for 3 film festivals across the southeast, including the lovely Tryon International Film Festival; and 1 international festival, where it won for best actress in J’nelle York & best music from long time collaborator, Bryan Holt. Because we spent over 9 months working on this project, it has been gratifying to share it with audiences and see their reactions. That is the reward for us; to impacting people on an emotional level with storytelling. We have on the slate a handful of 2020 festivals that we are hopeful to be selected for. Official - iCandy Poster
Near the beginning of June, we had the amazing opportunity to jump in & produce a powerful project from the mind of Gavin Harwell, that he wrote & went on to direct. He had a short, yet impactful script titled “iCandy” that had been shelved for 3 years prior. We knew the themes of the film, and subject matter covered, were relevant and the time to make it was upon us, so we pulled the trigger. We went from pre-production to completion in approx. 2 months, which is hyper speed for us. But with clear direction from Gavin, and a familiar team from previous projects, we pulled it off! iCandy went on to be a part of the Made in Carolinas 2019 film project where it was screened for its first live audience in a sold out theater in mid September 2019. Since this time it has been selected in over 10 film festivals across the country, including our locally held Charlotte Film Festival, which is an amazing festival to attend if you’ve never been! Along with those selections, it has won several awards in categories like cinematography, directing & screenplay to name a few. A mere month later we were in the first pre-production meeting for first time director, Eden Lee’s, short romance film “Liv”. This film, which explores a young man’s monotonous life as it’s turned upside by a vivacious woman, was the largest project we have produced to date. With numerous locations, a larger cast & crew than ever before, and many background performers…needless to say, it was a tall order. But, the passion Eden had to tell this story was contagious for all of us, from that first meeting all the way through production which wrapped in mid November. Currently, Liv is well into post production, and we expect it to be completed in the coming months and then begin its festival run into the summer! 2020 Look Ahead
The momentum from 2019 propelled us right into 2020, which arrived much quicker than expected, if we are being honest. But with this new year (& decade) came new storytelling opportunities.
The first of these is a unique hybrid music based short film from writer/director, Travis Karr, titled “Time After Time”. We are producing on this project which explores the idea of timeless love. With pre-production well underway, we are currently slated for a mid March shoot. Updates will be provided as they occur, and you can follow along on ours & Travis’ social media platforms (links below).
In parallel with Time After Time, we are in the early stages of pre-production on our next original short film, from writer/director, Trey Riley, titled “Youth”. This throwback story follows two young teen girls through a summer night in 1997, because tomorrow, everything changes. Producing on this project are Eden Lee & Gavin Harwell. Production is tentatively scheduled for late spring. As always, we will provide updates as progress happens.
We are excited for what we have scheduled for 2020, and the many projects yet to begin development. Here’s to a new decade in cinema. May we continue the pursuit of our dreams in every future endeavor. As we like to say, we are always in pre-production for the next thing in life.
